TM Real Estate Group has joined forces with the Rafiki Africa NGO on the “Rafiki Carmen Pérez González” School project to finance one of the 8 primary classrooms, which will be named the “José Luis Serna Classroom” in memory of the group’s founder. This initiative falls within the framework of TM’s drive to boost education, one of the main lines of the company’s CSR policy.

The school, the first brick of which was laid in 2018, can accommodate 400 primary school children from the age of 5 to 12 and has two buildings which, in addition to the classrooms, include a dining hall where both pupils and teachers can have breakfast and lunch every day of the week. The school was inaugurated last January at the start of term.

The establishment of this school is part of Rafiki Africa’s drive to improve the quality of life of the residents of the villages of Ikoba and Katwe in the districts of Sembaule and Hoima. The priority is to start by covering the most basic needs, focusing on education. The next phase will promote the full empowerment of all residents in the hope that these areas will become small oases of employment, learning, and entrepreneurship in the following years.

The Rafiki Africa NGO was founded in 2009 with the aim of helping the most depressed regions in Uganda, especially the area of Masaka, where thousands of refugees live.
