The Alicante-based company is launching two new projects to continue improving the conditions and lives of people in the Kenziga area of Uganda. These projects contribute to SDGs 1, 3, 4, 8 and 10 and are expected to benefit more than 300 people.

Alicante, March 2023 – TM Real Estate Group, a leading company in the residential tourism sector in Alicante, has renewed its commitment to collaborate with the NGO Rafiki Africa, a non-profit organisation from Alicante that operates in Uganda, developing new projects to fight poverty, inequality and social exclusion in the area.

More than a year ago, TM began collaborating with NGO Rafiki on three projects linked to the empowerment of women, education and sanitation infrastructure. The living conditions of hundreds of families have been improved by constructing and implementing a water purification plant and an agricultural training school, and designing a microcredit programme for women.

With this in mind, and with the aim of continuing to support one of the most under-resourced places in the world, TM is once again collaborating with NGO Rafiki with two new lines of action in the coming months: the construction of a boarding school-orphanage and developing the microcredit project for women in the area.

The future Kenziga boarding school will accommodate 100 children from the area, who will be able to continue their lives and education in an environment better suited to their needs and equipped with a library and canteen. Furthermore, the relaunch of the microcredit project will enable dozens of women to train and start up small agricultural and livestock businesses that will help them improve their quality of life and that of their families. This project will serve not only to help the families involved in the project, but also be an inspiration and a valuable learning experience for the rest of the community with regards to efficient and sustainable methods of goat, poultry and bee keeping, and efficient maize cultivation.

The projects will contribute to achieving these Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 10 (reduced inequalities); more than 300 people in this rural area of Uganda are expected to benefit from these projects over the next two years.

“TM is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as reflected in our Corporate Responsibility Master Plan. We are delighted to be able to extend our partnership with Rafiki to enable hundreds of people from one of the world’s poorest populations to have a chance to escape extreme poverty and create a future for themselves and their families,” says TM president Ángeles Serna.

“Rafiki Africa’s main objective is to lift people in the Ugandan area of Kenziga and Katwe out of extreme poverty, thanks to collaborations with companies such as TM Real Estate Group in the implementation of actions linked to education and micro-entrepreneurship. With these initiatives we are sure that the situation of these people will soon change and they themselves will create value and opportunities in their homeland,” says Juan Amirola, president of NGO Rafiki Africa.
