These festive days are perfect for celebrations, and the Mediterranean gives you lots to choose from: exquisite recipes that taste great, and also help you stay in shape.

The coast is the ideal place not only to enjoy the climate, but the local cuisine. With pleasant winter temperatures, and beautiful surroundings, the seaside is the perfect location for enjoying some really special Christmas holidays.

As you may remember, there are lots of reports on how good the Mediterranean diet is for your health. According to Spain’s Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare, “Mediterranean countries have a lower mortality rate from cancer and coronary heart disease than other countries, with the Mediterranean diet acting as a protective factor against these types of diseases“.

So no more excuses! Find out about all those famous Mediterranean dishes you can taste near your TM home.

ARROZ DEL SENYORET

A typical rice dish from the province of Alicante, which originates from the orders the upper classes in the Alicante region gave to their servants. This rice paella consists of fish and seafood but without the shells or bones. It was served in that manner so that “the lord of the dining hall” did not have to dirty his hands when eating the shrimp or crayfish.

OLLA DE TRIGO DE ALMERÍA

This is undoubtedly one of the dishes which is most symbolic of Almerian cuisine, since it was cooked using produce from the garden, the meadow and the farmyard. This typical dish is very easy to find in the villages in the interior of Almeria in the cold months.

It should be pointed out that wheat is not a very common ingredient in the cuisine, since its normal use is to feed animals. In Almería we can find it in bulk in the markets and also in those shops that appear to have been there forever and which are still found in some towns in the area.

GAZPACHUELO

Originating in Malaga, this dish is a soup which was typically made by fishermen with potatoes and fish remains. It is a hot soup made with fish broth, mayonnaise and cooked potatoes, and is traditionally eaten during colder periods.

EL TRAMPÓ

Typically eaten in the summer months, this traditional dish has been part of Mallorcan gastronomic culture for centuries. A cool salad ideal to accompany any dish.

This dish is often used as a base in recipes for other dishes, such as “Coca de Trampó mallorquina”.

ZARANGOLLO

A typical Murcian dish consisting of scrambled eggs with zucchini, onion and potato. A dish rich in quality proteins that will provide us with energy for our tasks.
