Press Room TM loses a great man – José Luis Serna Almodóvar, our President

It is with deep regret that we inform you that on Saturday 28th January 2012, our beloved president and founder, José Luis Serna Almodóvar, passed away. The Serna family and the entire TM team mourn the loss of this very special person. Husband, father and president, it will be difficult to forget him.

José Luis Serna Almodóvar was born in 1936, in the town of Orihuela.

From an early age José Luis led a life closely linked to both his town and his local community.

He had fond and joyful childhood memories of how he played games with his friends in and around his beloved home town.

In his youth he began to show his true character as a youngster eager to work, restless and energetic, with a unique form of thinking and working which set him apart from others.

Married to Joaquina Lorente Ballester, he was father to five children: Pablo, Jose, Ángeles, Joaquín and Jesús.

At the age of 30, he began to imagine a distinct future, one where he could channel and harness his enthusiasm, his willingness to work and his business flair. For this reason, in 1969 he took the first important steps to create a project in which he would become the driving force: TM Real Estate Group.

Its unprecedented growth and consolidation over more than 40 years of experience has moulded TM Real Estate Group into a true point of reference within the Spanish second home market, constructing quality developments along the Mediterranean Coast – in Alicante, Murcia, Almeria and Mallorca - together with international projects in Mexico and Brazil.

Trust, closeness, a commitment to quality and solvency are just some of the values which José Luis Serna has injected into TM Real Estate Group and forged its corporate philosophy around. His firm belief was that a client based orientation and job well done attitude were the keys to achieving business excellence and success.

Throughout his life, Jose Luis Serna had always shown a strong interest in helping and encouraging business relations, taking active roles in various trade associations including:

• Co-founder of the Promoters-Constructors Provincial Association of Alicante. (PROVIA)

• Ex-President of both the Torrevieja and Vega Baja Promoters-Constructors Association

• Ex-director of the Alicante Marketing Club.

• Member of the Association for Management Advancement.

• Former Vice President and board member of COEPA.

• Fundesem board member.

• Ex - President of the Alicante Province Economy Circle.

Being part of society and its needs, both at local and international levels, had always been a passion for José Luis, something demonstrated in just a few of his many actions, such as:

• Helping fund a visit of children from Pasto (Colombia) on their journey to Spain to play a charity concert as part of a larger solidarity campaign.

• Supporting the charity “Educas-Carmelitas Misioneras Teresianas” missionaries with a project to Guild homes for disadvantages families in Ecuador.

• Making a donation to UNICEF to help assist earthquake victims in Peru.

• Supporting the Nora Foundation and Human Project in Alicante, Spain.

• Sponsoring a charity event in Torrevieja for APANEE (Association for parents of special needs students)

• Supporting the celebration of the XXIth National Physics Olympics held at Alicante University.

• Sporting sponsorships including: Torrevieja School of Tennis; Busot Indoor Soccer; Fondo de Les Neus Cycling Club; Almoradi Volleyball Club; the Pulpi Triathlon and Torrevieja Football Club amongst others.

• Supporting cultural events including local fiestas or music festivals.

Through his actions, he taught us the meaning of commitment, honesty, effort and overcoming obstacles… that there was no such thing as barriers or closed doors for those who want to advance. Was there anything impossible for him? “I can achieve anything which really matters to me,” he once said.

José Luis Serna Almodóvar was without a doubt an exceptional and extraordinary person who has left a lasting impression with all those who knew him, setting a great example for us all to follow.
